Mountains

Many people may know that me and my family have been going through some pretty hard stuff lately. I've been trying hard to stay happy and positive but it has felt like disappointment after disappointment has come. More prayers have been said, and then more bad news comes.

Tonight I was just thinking of the scripture in 1 Nephi 3: 7 that says "And it came to pass that I, Nephi, said unto my father: I will go and do the things which the Lord hath commanded, for I know that the Lord giveth no commandments unto the children of men, save he shall prepare a way for them that they may accomplish the thing which he commandeth them." As I thought about this scripture I kept asking myself, "How can that be true?" "Does Heavenly Father really mean that?" I've been discouraged to say the least. I said another prayer and pleaded with Heavenly Father to give me comfort and help me through this.

(pause story)

You probably have seen the Mormon Message video going around Facebook that's titled "Mountains to Climb" I've seen what seems like hundreds of people reposting and sharing this video and every time I've seen it I just kind of roll my eyes and have thought "yeah yeah yeah, endure to the end and it'll all work out..." or "psh, they think their trials are hard, try living in my life!"

Well, tonight I finally decided that I can take a hint from Heavenly Father and I watched the video. After watching the video I was humbled, for a few reasons. First, how could I really think that my trials are any worse than anyone else's and second, how could I really think that Heavenly Father doesn't know all things.

Tonight I have recommitted to the faith. Faith that everything will work out in the end, even if it takes a really long time to get there. Faith that Jesus Christ suffered for me and knows without a doubt what I'm going through. And faith that Heavenly Father is in control and that he knows all.

My most recent favorite scriptures are now:

Joshua 1:5 "...I will not fail thee, nor forsake thee."

And

D&C 122:9 "Therefore, hold on they way, and the priesthood shall remain with thee; for their bounds are set, they cannot pass. Thy days are known, and thy years shall not be numbered less; therefore, fear not what man can do, for God shall be with you forever and ever."

If you haven't taken the time to watch the video, here's your chance:

  1. Whitney, I just love you so much! Earlier this week I was working on preparing a talk (that I'm going tomorrow) on faith in Jesus Christ. I started researching general conference talks, and came upon mountains to climb. I listened to it and it really touched me. I started doing other research to prepare the rest of the talk when I saw all those people posting the video, and like you, I passed it up a few times at first. Then, when I finally watched it, I just broke down. It's interesting to realize that giving this talk is really for me than for those in my ward. I really do know that things will work out in the prepared way for you and your family. Love you!
